Abstract

In this paper we offer a formal contextualist semantics for ‘knows’ which draws on the work of Williamson, Lewis, and DeRose. We argue that our interpretation of sphere semantics from Lewis’ work makes sense of the situation that arises in the sceptical argument. But we also argue that our version of contextualism validates closure, of a certain sort, contrary to the contextual semantics of DeRose.
