Kailash Gupta, Ph.D

Dr. Gupta retired from the Division of AIDS, NIH, after serving for 12 years as a Program Officer. Prior to joining NIH he was a Professor of Microbiology at the Rush Medical Center in Chicago where he mentored a cadre of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows conducting research on gene regulation of paramyxoviruses (measles, mumps, pneumoviruses) and HIV. He has several peer-reviewed research publications and general articles. At Division of AIDS, he had oversight on grants and projects related with novel therapeutic approaches including nanotechnology, siRNAs and anti-sense nucleic acids to treat AIDS.
He has extensive editorial experience. He founded the online journal, AIDS Research and Therapy, (http://aidsrestherapy.biomedcentral.com/about/editorial-board) in 2004 and was Editor-in-Chief until 2014. It has become a highly successful journal on HIV and AIDS. He peer reviews research articles for publication.
He did his PhD from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. Following that he received his training in biochemistry at Indiana University, Bloomington, in virology and molecular biology at University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was an Assistant Member at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis before joining the Rush Medical Center.
