Abstract

Abstract
The study seeks to rationalize the jeepney routes in Cebu City. Since the jeepney routes are proposed by the operators, it reflects the perceived needs of both commuters and jeepney operators. As such, the study analyzes the existing routes to find a pattern of the commuters’ needs that will be used as framework for rationalizing the jeepney routes. With the framework established, the current jeepney operation is evaluated against a simulated ideal system in Cebu that makes use of the framework. In creating the simulated system, future transport plans of Cebu City are considered, particularly the introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit system and a railway system. The study, however, assumes that there will be no additional road infrastructure for the use of jeepneys. The result is a pattern of routes that provides efficient coverage to all parts of Cebu City, and yet ease traffic congestion by minimizing the number of jeepney units along the roads.
