TIT - Turbine Inlet TemperatureEFGT - Externally Fired Gas Turbine Externally fired gas turbines are in commercial use since the late 1930s when 2.3MW Escher Wyss plant was commissioned. With an external light-oil fired heat source the plant demonstrated an efficiency of over 30 percent when operating with a turbine inlet temperature of 700°C ( in a closed cycle with air as a working fluid). During the Second World War the plant operated for about 6000 h providing electrical power for the Escher Wyss plant facility in Zurich \cite{McDonald_2012}. According to the EFGT technology review by Al-attab and Zainal \cite{Al_attab_2015} there are at least four EFGT projects of an electrical output under 100 kW of which results were published i.e.:Talbott company's 35 kW system based on Biomass combustion, electrical efficiency of 15% - the reports published in 2002 \cite{ltd2002} and 2005 \cite{pritchard2005};80 kW system designed by Ansaldo Ricerche and Thermochemical Power Group (TPG) of the Universita di Genova and tested in 2004 \cite{Traverso_2006} \cite{Traverso_2005};6 kW system developed during the Exheat EU Horizon project finished in 2010 - detailed information are no longer available;Testing EFGT system using turbocharger developed at University of Science in Malaysia \cite{Al_attab_2014};Analysis by Kautz and Hansen showed that EFGT systems may achieve higher efficiencies than steam engines, ORC systems or stirling engines in a 20-1000 kW power range \cite{Kautz_2007}. Hence, it is worthwhile to analyse an EFGT system of the electrical output below this range i.e. below 20 kW. There are a lot of publications with analyses of ORC vs EFGT systems or EFGT with ORC as a bottoming cycle of electric outputs of houndrets kW up to dozens of MW. However, Camporeale et al. \cite{Camporeale_2015} analysed the combined system (EFGT with ORC) in order to find an optimal configuration for a residential energy demand (rozwinąć tu jeszcze). Garderer et al. \cite{Gaderer_2010} analysed 90 kW EFGT system with experimental tests of the main heat exchanger elements installed in a fluidised bed combustor. Iora and Silva \cite{Iora_2013} analysed the 50 kW EFGT system based on a two automotive turbo-chargers (double shaft configuration with inter-cooling) in order to minimize the capital expenditures of the system. The results of the modelling are promising in terms of electrical efficiency (20.7% for TIT = 750 °C, 23.5% for TIT = 850°C and 27,0% for TIT=950°C).Development of an Externally Fired Gas Turbine at Institute of Power EngineeringIn recent years personel of Institute of Power Engineerng have build the EFGT test rig and executed laboratory tests the system in which the installed generator has electric output of 6 kW. The system consist of:- radial turbine, centrifugal compressor and permanent magnet generator rotor installed on one shaft,- a heat-exchanger with piping,- a biomass combustion chamber,- an exhaust gases discharge piping system connected to the chimney,- additional pressurized air system for turbine startup. With the cost of micro gas-turbines in the range €1000–1200 per kWel,this would lead to €1500–1800 per kWfor the EFGT. Asmall steam-unit with 2 MW-el isreported to call for an investment of €2200 per kW-el [5]. Also for the Stirling engine, thecost estimates are still uncertain. \cite{Kautz_2007}- Bardzo podobna analiza eko jest w Cycle configuration analysis and techno-economic sensitivity of biomass externally fired gas turbine with bottoming ORC - Sergio M.
