<div>The
blended librarian retains the traditional values of academic librarianship but brings
new tools—instructional design and technology skills—into the mix. How he or
she accomplishes this—through intentionality and planning, in other words, by
design—is the focus of this book. Our close study of instructional design and technology,
along with collaborations with our colleagues in this field, makes clear that
design thinking is critical to these professions. An appropriate and effective instructional
product, as well as support to those who use instructional technologies, is the
outcome of a design process. In this chapter we will focus on blended librarianship
and will share profiles of individuals who serve as models of blended librarians.
