\section{Preamble}  This is an introduction to a series onthinking and  pushing beyond "The Article". But where to draw the line?   Health economist Christopher Sampson \href{http://theconversation.com/what-counts-as-an-academic-publication-34549}{tackles the question head on} and makes some fantastic points.  We've also talked points  about the sometimes "creative" storytelling found in articles benefits of communicating through alternative channels like blogs  and a \href{https://www.authorea.com/users/3/articles/10564/_show_article}{possible solution} for "\textbf{the Future platforms outside  of Science}". traditional journals.  But this isn't about standard scholarly communication. This series  is about extending communication even further:  outreach, non-traditional dissemination, writing for different audiences, and how to get more eyes on your work without resorting to click-baity titles (full disclosure: title was \textit{almost} "7 Things You Won't Believe Increase Your Online Presence and DOUBLE the size of your h-index!").\\ Simply, these are more ways to \href{https://twitter.com/albertopepe/status/256470400777728000/photo/1}{extend scientific communication into the 21st century}.  So, be sure to stick around, follow us (\href{https://www.facebook.com/Authorea}{fb}, \href{https://twitter.com/authorea}{tw}, \href{https://plus.google.com/u/1/+Authorea/posts?cfem=1}{g+}) (we'll also cover social media), and leave \href{https://www.authorea.com/users/9932/articles/13560/_show_article}{comments}, questions, and suggestions (we'll cover interactivity too).
