<div>The majority of hazardous work will involve the use of volatile, and sometimes toxic solvents. These are flammable and can be inconvenient when not used properly. Common solvents include methanol for extractions, dichloromethane for TLC and acetone for columns. Careful precautions are taken to ensure minimal evaporation of these solvents into the workspace, including the use of simple glassware such as erlenmyer flasks, using watchglasses for beakers with solvents in them and sealing off columns when not in use. This is very simple risk which is easy to avoid.
