<div>Also discovered, and synthesised, have been a slew of aaptamine derivatives either by coincidence or in hopes of improving bioactivity. The original aaptamine paper showed a-blocking activity. Since then, aaptamines have shown to be p21 promoter activator (in a p53-independent manner - isoaaptamine), anti-HIV activity, anticancer and cytotoxic behaviour, apoptosis-inducing, proteasome inhibition, antifungal activity to name a few. Remarkably, for a compound discovered in 1982, some of these bioactivities are only just revealing themselves in recent literature. Although such promiscuity may be thought of as bad, many derivatives are more specific in their activity.
