From 1993 to 2010, women with a degree in S&E fields increased from only 31% to 37% and women with S&E occupations increased from 23% to 28% (National Science Foundation). However, while these numbers have increased greatly, increased,  women in higher academic, and particularly STEM research, in STEM,  are still the overwhelming majority minority  compared to men. Only around 28% of the world’s researchers are female. (UNESCO) According to one study, women in STEM academic fields not only publish less and receive fewer citations than male counterparts, women are also less successful at raising funds.
