Profiles used to derive characteristics masses for the M83 disk. (top) This panel shows the rotation curve of the \citet{Lundgren_2004} study of M83 using low resolution CO mapping (dashed line). Using the the 21-cm THINGS data of \citet{Walter_2008}, the figure indicates the median inferred rotation speed (solid curve) and absolute deviation around that median (shaded region) for the atomic gas. The curves show good agreement, leading us to adopt low resolution CO rotation curve. (bottom) ISM velocity dispersion inferred from the ALMA CO and THINGS 21-cm data. The velocity dispersion is high in the centre of the galaxy but flattens once outside of the nuclear/bar region.
