To detect Ears are also a part of  the ears, facial recognition process of Kinect. In  \citet{gonzalez2014kinect}'s study, they apply he applies  a preprocessing phase  to the depth image in the same way that they do to detect the nose and eyes. From the depth image, e.g. the one illustrated in Figure. 13(a), a depth filter is applied to get rid of the background and compute just the fore-ground where the user is. Figure. 13(b) demonstrates a depth image after applying the depth filter. In this image, all the background is being erase and just the face and a fraction of the torso of the user is visible.
