Kinect can also detect likewise recognize  shadows. The Kinect sensor uses a structured light technique to generate make  a depth map of the scene, wherein a dot pattern is projected by an IR light projector and captured by a displaced IR camera (see Fig. fig.  7(b)). By calculating solving  the disparities of the projected dots between in the middle of  the IR light  projector and camera, the depth of the scene is attained completed  (see Fig. fig.  7(c)).
