Replace this text A-C) Example of COX stained _A. burtoni_ male brains sectioned at 30uM and stained for 60 min. Adjacent sections are presented  with your caption the left side stained for Nissl substance and the right stained with COX histochemistry. A) Transverse section through the forebrain. Subdivisions of the Dorsal (D) and ventral (V) telencephalon are clearly distinguishable in the COX stain. White matter such as the optic nerve (black arrow) are not stained. B) Transverse section through the midbrain. One prominent structure is the optic tectum which is stained in great detail by COX histochemistry (black arrow pointing to the darkest layer). C) Transverse section through the anterior forebrain. Cell free glomeruli are clearly stained by COX histochemistry (black arrows), while the cell dense granular layer is only lightly stained (red arrows). D) Transverse section of a mouse brain stained with COX histochemistry along side the _A. burtoni_ brains as a positive control. Structures such as the hippocampus and baso-lateral amygdala are clearly distinguishable, while the hypothalamus appears uniform.
