topographical slope
(topo_slope) (topo\_slope) were the most important criteria to group regions (Note: temperature units are ºC x 10 and
topographical slope units are degrees). See Table 1 to identify regions (numbers within the circles). The size of the colored circles is based on the residuals of the recursive partition model. Black circles represent Neanderthal sites used to calibrate the species distribution model. Example of interpretation: in Southern Italy (ID=35) high habitat suitability values (cases within the node 5 of the recursive partition model) are explained by a temperature of the coldest month (bio6) higher than -4.4 ºC, and a temperature of the warmest month higher than 2.5º.
