Indeed those methods have been widely used, and they were
found to be reliable in the sense that the measurements can be repeated with
fair accuracy, given the same experimental conditions. Furthermore, as it is
often sufficient to determine only a rank order - for example between codecs -
or to find the visibility threshold for impairments, the standard methods have
been proven to be valuable tools in many instances.
