Current practice

The current practice in the model is based on the year 2012.

Consumers

The Dutch households used 1341 m³ of gas in 2012, which is a decrease of 23% compared to the year 2000. This decrease is caused by better insulation of houses and more efficient heating systems. Although the electrical appliances have become more efficient as well, the amount of appliances used has increased, as well as the size of the appliances. The electricity usage per household is 3495 kWh in 2012, which is a slight increase compared to 2000. The amount of kilometers driven in cars has increased. However, the total fuel usage has decreased, which points at a better fuel efficiency of cars (ECN, Energie-Nederland & Netbeheer Nederland, 2014).

The total amount of energy used yearly by an average Dutch household is 111 GJ, the total amount of CO2 emitted per household is 6429 kg. In the figure 1 the distribution of these measures is given.
