Light and temperature also caused significant changes in the amount of Chlorophyll a per Symbiodinium cell, though there was no interaction between them. This accords with prior studies, which have demonstrated that acclimation of corals to changes in light or temperature can occur through both adjustments to numbers of Symbiodinium cells, as well as to adjustments in the Chlorophyll a content per Symbiodinium cell (Dubinsky and Schofield, 2010, Winters et al., 2009). However, neither factor caused a change in the amount of Chlorophyll c2 per Symbiodinium cell. Similarly, Reynaud et al. (2003) found an impact of temperature on Chlorophyll a but not Chlorophyll c2 content per cell in Stylophora pistillata.
