\label{fig:mass_of_bones}: A comparison of the physical properties of the Bone candidates, based on a similar table from \citet{Goodman_2014}. We \textit{estimate} an average H$_2$ column density of $2 \times 10^{22}$, consistent with the minimum peak column density to be included in the \citet{Peretto_2009} catalog of 11,303 IRDCs; this corresponds to an assumed equivalent Av. of 20 magnitudes and an assumed average density of $3\times 10^{-19}$ $\rm{g}/\rm{cm}^{3}$. We plan to perform extinction mapping on each candidate to physically measure this column densities in a follow-up study.  (1) Central galactic coordinates for our filaments, prefixed with "BC" (bone candidate). (2) We estimate distances by assuming all candidates are associated with the Scutum-Centaurus arm as fitted by \citet{Dame_2011}. (3) When available, we cite distances from \citet{Ellsworth_Bowers_2013}, which were derived by applying a Bayesian distance probability density function to 1710 molecular clouds from the BGPS survey. (8) We assume the filaments are cylindrically shaped, and calculate the volume based on measured radius and length.(9) We \textit{estimate} an average H$_2$ column density of $2 \times 10^{22}$, consistent with the minimum peak column density to be included in the \citet{Peretto_2009} catalog of 11,303 IRDCs; this corresponds to an assumed equivalent Av. of 20 magnitudes and an assumed average density of $3\times 10^{-19}$ $\rm{g}/\rm{cm}^{3}$.
