Figure \label{fig:mass_of_bones}: A comparison of the physical properties of Nessie and the Bone candidates, based on a similar table from \citet{Goodman_2014}. We assume the filaments are cylindrically shaped, with radius, length, and average density appropriate to the GLIMPSE mid-infrared extinction features. The assumed distance to Nessie was 3.1 kpc, while the assumed distances to the ten bone candidates are listed in table \ref{tab:candidates}. \citet{Goodman_2014} chose an average density of $10^5 \textrm{ cm}^{-3}$ to produce a visual extinction of 100 magnitudes, typical for a long, filamentary IRDC.
