A trace of Filament 5, as it would appear as a mid-IR extinction feature, is superimposed on the CO emission map. We mark the location of the physical Galactic midplane with the dashed line, as well as $\pm$ 20 pc from that plane using the solid lines.  The correlation between Filament 5's mid-IR extinction feature and Scutum's most intense CO emission hints that Filament 5 may be a spine of Scutum as traced by lower density CO gas
