6 years living in Paris. That journey, from mute new expat to quite fluent French speaker, is the frame from which I parse the xxx in my xxx thesis.   Learning French is difficult. Not only because of the grammar and the many exceptions to the rule  wrote the thesis while pregnant with my first baby.   It never crossed my mind that I'd go live in another country. But as unlikely as it was, once I went, never looked back.   3,5 year that this thesis was in the making  in \textbf{boldface}, \textit{italic}, and yes, math too: $E = mc^{2}$!
