An important parameter in these systems is the strength of coupling the resonator motion to charge transport through the device. We investigated the mechanical oscillations of a suspended single-walled carbon nanotube that also acts as a single-electron transistor. The coupling of the mechanical and the charge degrees of freedom is strikingly strong as well as widely tunable (the associated damping rate is ~3 {\texttimes} 106 Hz). In particular, the coupling is strong enough to drive the oscillations in the nonlinear regime.},  issn = {0036-8075},  URL = {http://science.sciencemag.org/content/325/5944/1107},  eprint = {http://science.sciencemag.org/content/325/5944/1107.full.pdf},  journal = {Science}  }  @article {Steele2009,  author = {Steele, G. We studied a high-quality mechanical resonator made from a suspended carbon nanotube driven into motion by applying a periodic radio frequency potential using a nearby antenna. Single-electron charge fluctuations created periodic modulations of the mechanical resonance frequency. A quality factor exceeding 105 allows the detection of a shift in resonance frequency caused by the addition of a single-electron charge on the nanotube. Additional evidence for the strong coupling of mechanical motion and electron tunneling is provided by an energy transfer to the electrons causing mechanical damping and unusual nonlinear behavior. We also discovered that a direct current through the nanotube spontaneously drives the mechanical resonator, exerting a force that is coherent with the high-frequency resonant mechanical motion.},  issn = {0036-8075},  URL = {http://science.sciencemag.org/content/325/5944/1103},  eprint = {http://science.sciencemag.org/content/325/5944/1103.full.pdf},  journal = {Science}  }  @article{Beenakker1991,  title = {Theory of Coulomb-blockade oscillations in the conductance of a quantum dot},  author = {Beenakker, C.
