Our setup consisted of a solid state diode laser with a wavelength of 670 nm, a solenoid with a coil constant of 11.1 mT/A, $11.1 \frac{mT}{A}$,  a rotatable polarizer, and a photodiode. The current through the solenoid was controlled by a programmable bipolar operational power supply to produce either a DC current, AC current, or AC current with a DC offset. This allowed us to produce wither a constant magnetic field $B_0$ $B_{0}$  or a time varying magnetic field $B = B_0 B_{0}  + B_1 B_{1}  \cos(\omega t)$ as needed.
