Our setup consisted of a HeNe laser with a wavelength of 670 nm, a solenoid with a coil constant of XXX V/A, a rotatable polarizer, and a photodiode. The current THROUGH THE SOLENOID through the solenoid  was controlled by a [PROGRAMABLE] programmable  bipolar operational power supply [to to  produce either a dc DC  current, ac AC  current, or ac AC  current with adc offset. THIS ALLOWED US TO APPLY EITHER A  DC MAGNETIC FIELD offset. This allowed us to produce wither a constant magnetic field  $B_0$ OR A TIME VARYING MAGNETIC FIELD or a time varying magnetic field  $B = B_0 + B_1 \cos(\omega t)$ AS NEEDED. as needed.
