Our setup consisted of a HeNe laser with a wavelength of XXX 670  nm, a solenoid with a coil constant of XXX V/A, a rotatable polarizer, and a photodiode. The current THROUGH THE SOLENOID was controlled by a [PROGRAMABLE] bipolar operational power supply [to produce either a dc current, ac current, or ac current with a dc offset. THIS ALLOWED US TO APPLY EITHER A DC MAGNETIC FIELD $B_0$ OR A TIME VARYING MAGNETIC FIELD $B = B_0 + B_1 \cos(\omega t)$ AS NEEDED.
