We changed the magnetic field because we want to measure the
field -induced-rotation field-induced-rotation in polarization angle of the light as it passes through the glass rod. This allows us to find the change in Verdet constant since Verdet constant is a measure of how large a change in polarization angle can be produced for a given field.
