[do we know how many of these dark taxa are due to BOLD sequences]  One way to firmly associate sequence with taxonomic names is if the original description includes DNA those  sequences. To estimate the extent to which new taxon descriptions include molecular data I obtained a list of 12,000 _Zootaxa_ articles that published new names from BioNames, then queried GenBank for each publication. Only 564 articles included sequences, suggesting were found,suggesting  that molecular data has had minimal impact on the description of new animal species.
