yyy  So, we have dark text and dark taxa. This raises the question of how to move forward  One obvious way to help integrate classical taxonomy and DNA barcodes is through sequencing type specimens. In essence, taxonomic work at the species level can be though of as assembling specimens into sets that we regard as conspecific, and then assigning that set a name. One or more of the specimens in this set will be a type specimen associated with a scientific name, and the oldest such name is used for the species. Hence, if we have sequences for type specimens, we can automatically compute which species name should be applied to a BIN. Not all sequences from type specimens in the sequence databases are flagged as such, but the NCBI is actively trying to locate all such sequences [citations].
