In order to calibrate both samples it was critical that we find the correct settings for the High Voltage, Course Gain, and Fine Gain. We started out by auto-calibrating our samples and from there we varied the settings until we found the ones that best fit our sample. We needed the spectrum to be nicely spread across and we needed the peaks to be distinguishable and clear. We knew where the peaks of Cesium-137 and Cobolt 60 should be, so we varied the settings until we found a spectrum that looked similar to a published one for both Cesium-137 and Cobolt 60. Table 1 shows the final values from the calibrations.
