After finding the total mass and total luminosity of a spiral galaxy from the IMF, I was able to find a mass/luminosity relationship of $1.47$. $0.0028$.  This number is very small compared to the value found from galaxies: $19.99$. $18.10$.  This means in order to understand if galaxies are primarily composed of stellar material, we need to vary the age and therefore the luminosity of the galaxies. Because the process of varying age is complicated, we used a program called Guy Worthy’s model Interpolation Engine. This allowed me to input the age of the galaxy, the metal content, and the percentage of stars with a given metal content.
