In order to find the mass of spiral galaxies, we need the values for the semi and major axis in order to find \theta (inclination). Once we know a and b, we can find the mass. In order to find a and b, we need the coordinates given from the Java applet (the X and Y coordinates in arc seconds). We can find the semi-major axis by the two most end points that are given by the applet because the line of nodes is along the semi-major axis. In order to find the semi-minor axis, I had to open the applet and scroll over the two points that I thought were along the
semi-major semi-minor axis.
For the rest of this report, I will be using data from the spiral galaxy $ESO286-G16$, but I will be using the same method for all of the other spiral galaxies.
