Now that we understand why we can use the radial velocity of the galaxy, we can now start trying to find the mass of the galaxies. The equation for finding mass is as follows:  \begin{equation}  \begin{split}  Mass = (V_{orb}^2 \cdot r) / G  \end{split}  \end{equation}  where G is the known gravitational constant ($6.674 \cdot 10^−11 \textrm{ N m^2 / kg^2}$), $V_{orb}^2$ is the orbital velocity, and r is the semi-major axis.
