Length = {[(\textrm{Difference in Minor Coordinates})^2 + (\textrm{Difference in Major Coordinates})^2]}^{1/2}  \end {equation}  and in order to find the semi-major axis and semi-minor axis, you take the major and minor axis and divide each by two because the semi-minor axis is half of the minor axis and the semi-major is half of the major  axis.
