The Franck-Hertz Curve for Neon. "V Inverted" is the measured anode current, converted to an output voltage using a current preamplifier. Since the signal was inverted inverted,  the dips in anode current that correspond to excitation of atoms in the vapor are actually the peaks in this graph. Ionization leads to a large increase in electron beam current because the process of ionization leads to the liberation of more electrons and positive ions. Since "V inverted" is just the anode current converted to a voltage, when the vapor ionizes, "V inverted" should increase as well.
