Transitionary  technologies may may, howefer,  be the solution answer  to kickstart the  migration to smarter roads and better understanding of our transportation needs and environment. environmen todayt.  This paper presents in detail a practical framework for implementation of an automated, high-resolution, video-based traffic-analysis system, particularly geared towards road safety analysis and traffic flow studies. This system collects large amounts of microscopic traffic flow data from ordinary video cameras and includes tools for studying basic traffic flow measures as well as more advanced, pro-active safety measures.
