_Kirrobacter_ (Kir.ro.bac'ter. Gr. adj. _kirros_, orange-tawny; Gr. adj. _bacter_, rod; N.L. n. _Kirrobacter_, orange-tawny colored rod)  Gram-negative, non-spore forming oval bacteria. Aerobic and chemoheterotrophic.  Contains carotenoids, but not bacteriochlorophyll a. _a_. The major respiratory quinone is Q10, the dominant phospholipds are phosphatidylglycerol, sphingoglycolipid, and phophatidylthanolamine.
