_Kirrobacter mercurialis_ (mer.cur.ia.al'is L. adj. _mercurialis_, temperamental).  In addition to the characteristics of the genus, colonies on LB are round, glossy, less than 1 mm in diameter. Coloration on agar and in dense liquid culture is ??? (Crayola, (TM)), appears yellow in liquid culture during exponential phase. Morphology is pleomorphic short rods (?? to ??), often with pointed ends. Growth in liquid culture from 4-27 degrees C, optimum growth at 23 degrees C. Does not require salt for growth, can tolerate up to 5% NaCl with an optimal concentration of 1% NaCl. Tolerates pH 5.5 to 7.9, optimum around neutral pH. Oxidase and catalase negative. Carbon sources etc.Cor2b strain was isolated by cotton swab dilution streak plating technique on Lysogeny Broth at 23 degrees celcius. Cell morphology was extamined by light microscopy and transmission election microsopy. Growth under anaerobic conditions was determined via (oil?) Growth in the absence of NaCl was observed in Lysogeny Broth without NaCl. Maximum, minimum and optimal NaCl and pH amounts was investigated in LB with differing concentrations of NaCl and acid respecitively. Catalase and oxidase activity was done with 2% hydrogen peroxide and 1 % N,N,N',N'-Tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine·2HCl respectively. Hydrolysis of casein, starch, Tween 20, and Tween 80 was tested on biology plates supplied by Biolog, Inc.
