Objectives

The objectives for the design of the machine were as follows.

  1. The machine should be able to test the candlelights as fast as possible. (Metric: time required for operation)

  2. The machine should test the candlelights as accurately as possible (Metric: number of candlelights whose state is identified correctly)

  3. The machine should test the candlelights as reliably as possible. (Metric: number of times the operation can be executed successfully)

These were the high-level objectives used to evaluate outcomes as the project moved forward. More detailed criteria were used to discriminate between designs at earlier stages in the project; see Section \ref{sec:occ_criteria}
