This section gives the critical calculations for the various electromechanical components of the robot. These include the required forces and torques in the mechanisms, and calculations of the required mechanical properties of the materials used to construct the robot. Certain calculations are excluded when carrying them out would be futile, exempli gratia buckling loads for the vertical members of the frame were by quick inspection determined to be many times greater than the maximum allowed weight of the entire machine, and so no detailed calculations were carried out.
