The integration plan prioritized integrating the circuits with the PIC off the machine first and establishing that the circuits sent the required signals correctly and that the PIC interpreted the input it recieved correctly.
This stage involved verifying that the PIC/circuit system could correctly operate the stepper and servo motors, and distinguish between states with the input it recieved from the sensor board.
Testing the sensory circuits included connecting the photodiodes to the sensor board and conducting various tests with the PIC; no light, flickering light and solid light to simulate the various possible states that the candlelight could be in and verifying that the signal was being sent without interference and that the PIC correctly interpreted the signal it recieved.
To test the actuating mechanisms, the motors were provided with power and then sent the firing sequence over control wires in the case of the stepper motors, and a PWM signal in the case of the servo motors.
