\subsubsection{Photosensor Summary}
The machine for this project utilized two types of photodiodes: one to sense the yellow light from the candlelights and one to sense the IR light from the IR LED (to check if the candlelight is present). Photodiode material composition will be selected according to functional operating demands, likely silicon for the yellow light and germanium for the IR light.

\label{tab:Photosensors}
\begin{tabular}{|c|c|c|c|}
\hline
Sensor Type & Photodiode & Phototransistor & Photoresistor \\ \hline
Pros & Linear Light Intensity/Current Relationship & Decent light sensitivity with respect to response speed & Inexpensive \\
& Fastest Response Time & Works for IR and Visible Light & Simple Circuit \\
& Good for visible light and part of IR spectrum & & Better sensitivity to visible light (i.e. better colour detection) \\ \hline
Cons & More complex Driving Circuit & More Expensive & Wavelength Specific \\
& & Highly Wavelength Specific & Slow Response Time \\
& & More Complex Driving Circuit & Non-linear current/intensity relationship \\
& & & Cannot detect IR \\ \hline
