\subsection{Infection of \textit{B. dubia} with \textit{F. tularensis} LVS}
To determine if OS cockroach survival was proportional to the number of bacteria present in the infection inoculum, serial dilutions of \textit{F. tularensis} LVS were injected into into the hemocoel of juvenile cockroaches that measured greater than 1.5 cm in length. Following infection, cockroaches were housed at 37$^{\circ}$C and survival was monitored over the course of 7 days. Overall, the percentage of cockroaches in each group that survived infection and the rates of death were dose-dependent.
No None of the cockroaches
survived infection inoculated with 10^5 CFU of \textit{F. tularensis}
LVS, with all cockroaches in this group dead by LVS survived beyond day
five post-infection (Figure 2). 4 (\textbf{Figure 2}). In comparison, 60 percent of cockroaches infected with 10^{4} CFU of \textit{F. tularensis} LVS survived through day seven post-infection (p=0.0141; compared to 10^5 CFU group) and 90 percent of cockroaches infected with 10^{3} CFU of \textit{F. tularensis} LVS survived through day seven post-infection (p<0.001; compared to 10^5 CFU group; Figure 2). Injection of PBS alone did not result in any cockroach deaths.
