  \subsection{\textit{F. tularensis} genes required for virulence in mammals also are are required for virulence in OS cockroaches}  In order to determine if virulence factors known to be required for \textit{F. tularensis} pathogenicity in mammals also are required in our cockroach model, we determined the LD_{50} value for several mutant strains of \textit{F. tularensis} LVS. Juvenile OS cockroaches were infected by intrahemocoel injection followed by incubation at 37°C. Survival was monitored for 7 days post-infection and the LD_{50} value for each strain was determined by non-linear regression. As shown in \textbf{Table 1}, loss of \textit{dsbA}, \textit{dipA}, \textit{iglC}, or \textit{deoB} significantly decreased virulence. These results correlate well with virulence in cockroaches, similar to  trends previously  observed in mice \cite{24014665,25257164,23840797} and chick embryos \cite{18842136}. These results suggest that significant overlap exists that, although obvious differences exist  between the molecular determinants of mice and cockroaches, significant overlaps exist in how \textit{F. tularensis} causes  disease across and death in  hosts from diverse phyla.
