The problem with the current indexing scale is that it is subjective. The assignment of the index can be inconsistent depending on who is assigning it. A tool is necessary to accurately and objectively measure the severity of the disease in cacao pods. Paving the way to providing meaningful assessments, implementing appropriate management strategies, and increasing yields of the cacao.  We propose a mobile app that will enhance the supervision, management, and treatment of pests and diseases in cacao. The mobile app will be used to (step 1) take photos of the cacao. The initial assessment checks if it is infected by the black pod rod. It has a function to (step 2) calculate the index of the decaying area of the cacao pod. This processing step will reduce the human error in calculating disease severity. The reported incidence of black pod rod will be (step 3) stored in the database and (step 4) an auto-generated email/sms will be sent to expert(s) for further diagnosis and prescription of treatment (if needed). A response from the expert will be sent back to the sender of the report (step 5). The response will also be recorded in the database for documentation purpose (step 6). After a specific treatment is prescribed, the app will track the reduction of decay of the black pod rod (step 7). It will end until the expert declares full recovery of the cacao pod. The exchange of messages between the expert and farmer will be recorded in the database as part of the documentation.  The data that will be mined throughout the project will also be of great interest to the researchers, who are interested in finding out pod rot disease incidence and intensity in plantations, and distribution pattern of disease in some selected areas (like what is done in [5]).
