small groups with minimal resource requirements achieving a change that contributes to climate adaptation.
Climate change adaptation requires changes in society to align to the changing conditions in the natural environment. We assume that a change towards a new societal configuration requires innovation. Thereby we follow the common differentiation that innovation can either happen through technical or social innovations. For the scope of this paper we are entirely interested to investigate the dynamics of social innovations for climate change adaptation in the global south.
We do this for three reasons. Firstly, as opposed to technical innnovations, social innovations usually require much less financial resources which are often one of the limiting factors in developing countries. Secondly, the assumption that technolgical advances will always save us is highly debatable \cite[see]{Malthus}. Thirdly, little reserach has been done yet on the potentials of social innovations as an adaptation strategy for climate.
What are social innovations?
