In this paper we want to examine the impacts of increased droughts caused by climate change on African food systems. We focus on adaptation measures that smallholder farmers can apply to protect their livelihood and to make their food production more resilient against the effects of droughts. Amongst these measures, we look at the potentials for sustainable agroforestry, crop responses, sowing dates and seed purchase decisions,  \cite{Deressa_2009}  \cite{Zinyengere_2013}
