In this This  paper we want to examine examines  the impacts of increased droughts weather extremes  caused by climate change on African food systems. We The specific  focus lies  on adaptation measures that can be applied by  smallholder farmerscan apply  to protect their livelihood and to make their food production more resilient against the effects of droughts. Amongst these measures, we look at weather extremes. The measures considered are, amongst others,  the potentials for sustainable agroforestry, crop responses, sowing dates and seed purchase decisions, decisions. The adoption potentials for these adaptation strategies are evaluated taking into consideration regional environmental and socio-economic differences.  \cite{Deressa_2009}
