\section{Review of major adaptation methods}  In this section we review the major methods used by African farmers to adapt to climate change and the socio-economic and environmental factors that influence these decisions. Knowledge on these factors can help policy-making to target investing at the most affecting factors. Deressa et al. (2009) used a cross-sectoral survey amongst 1000 households in the Nile basin of Ethopia on the farmers’ perception of climate change and what they consider as appropriate strategies to cope with it. In this study the following strategies were identified:  \begin{itemize}  \item Planting trees  \item Soil conservation  \item Different crop varieties  \item Early and late planting  \item Irrigation  \end{itemize}
