- on what is your best bet formulated? (mention, but do not describe preliminary data here)  - write so that it can easily be beoken down in aims to be presented later  I want to start with the idea that microeuk diversity is underappreciated and underexplored. Then, talk about why they are important. Then, talk about how we are going to explore the microeuk diversity in seagrass beds. Then, why seagrass beds are important ecosystems and why microeuks play an important role in them. Then, mention that we are uniquely suited to explore microeuk diversity in seagrass beds because we have launched a global research program into the microbes associated with seagrasses with funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.  I want to play down the whole "NGS allows us to discover lots of things" angle, because these people don't see the value in accumulating DNA sequences of things that we can't culture or see or have any idea what they're doing.  Here's my stab at a catchy first sentence:  Microbial eukaryotes may represent the final frontier for the discovery of life on Earth. These un  Next generation sequencing technology is finally allowing us to grasp the true diversity of the microbial world that surrounds us. As a result, microbial ecologists are finding themselves in uncharted territory as they analyze large data sets full of "unclassified" organisms. It has become clear that there are (??) more microorganisms than previously thought. Our goal with this proposal is to increase the overall knowledge of the true diversity of microbial eukaryotes by identifying and culturing microeukaryotes from seagrass beds.
