The top panel shows the taxonomic composition (at the Family level) of each meal, where the bars Bacterial families (light blue spheres)  are clustered based on dietary pattern (i.e. AMERICAN, USDA, VEGAN). In the lower panel, displayed in  the bars have now been sorted PCoA plot  based on each meal's loading for Principal Coordinate 1. Clustering in this way allows easier visualization of which taxa are contributing the most to the overall differences weighted unifrac distances  between the meals, regardless of which dietary pattern the meals were from. Because there are too many families to reasonably include in a figure legend, only the taxa discussed with respect to this figure are included in the legend. 15 meals.
